Introduction to Bissau

Bissau is the capital of Guinea Bissau, located on the Geba River estuary, on the Atlantic coast. It is the largest city in the country, with the largest port, making up the administrative and military center of the region and the nation. Bissau is also the capital of the Bissau Autonomous District.

Bissau is a big port city. The infrastructures for import and export are already built up, such as customs offices. The taxes are low in every sector, except for luxury goods and alcoholic beverages.

As fortified port and business center, Bissau is the largest city in the country, and apart from municipal institutions, it is also the seat of political, administrative, and military power. Bissau has an excellent natural port, through which the country exports coffee, rubber, wood, cotton, and sugar. The city, known for its annual carnival, has been investing in the tourism sector.

Bissau has twinning agreements with Águeda, Lisbon and Moura (Portugal) and Praia (Cape Verde).
