Over the past few years, Guinea-Bissau has invested considerably in the conservation of its biodiversity as well as its ecosystems. The creation of a National System of Protected Areas (SNAP) stems from the recognition of the vital role that these areas play in sustaining people and underpinning regional and local economic activities, as well as contributing to the health and diversity of the global environment. As a result tourism and sustainable ecotourism in Guinea Bissau have potential for economic growth and employment.
Guinea-Bissau’s advantages when it comes to tourism are based on its natural resources and cultural assets. Carnival stands out as a major cultural event and is characterized by numerous stages that extol the Guinean festive tradition in ethnographic manifestations of local roots.
The country’s characteristic biodiversity can be combined with strong cultural resources, namely the hospitality of the population and the country’s cultural diversity, to create a unique tourism offer. The diverse and attractive cuisine, cultural festivals, traditional dances and music, and handicrafts are all factors that further enrich the tourist experience.
Tourism is of growing importance in Guinea-Bissau. The country is aware of its potential and natural conditions, and of the importance of attracting more national and foreign investors, with a view to creating adequate infrastructure and services that meet the highest standards of the international tourism industry.
